COVID-19 UPDATES

Thank you all for adjusting, being so responsive to meetings, for your valuable feedback, and for continuing to serve with flexibility.

Special mention must be made of the APC community, parents, youth, children and guests for tuning in faithfully to all of our online worship and edification programs. Our viewership and subscribership has grown significantly. Thank you for viewing, sharing and giving!

To Help Serve You Better

Our valued members and community, we will be taking a few extra weeks before we reconvene in the building. With the help of our wise and caring planning team, we will take the best steps to safely reopen APC to in-person worship.

We will observe best practice recommendations from our federal, provincial and local governments and reopen in phases that best serve our congregation's health and safety.

During This Transitional Time

social distancing

We’ll observe strict social distancing — no hugs apart from family members, no handshakes, no crowded hallways, washrooms, lobby or altar.

If you have a mask, please feel free to use it. Masks and hand sanitizer will also be available and all due diligence will be observed by our gracious hospitality and sanitization team.

What You Can Do

If you have traveled abroad during the last 14 days, please stay home. If you or anyone in your immediate family is experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms, or if you suspect that you are infected:

  • Stay home except to get medical care
  • Seek medical care right away: Call ahead before visiting your doctor
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes
  • Avoid sharing personal household items
  • Clean your hands often
  • Clean all “high-touch” surfaces every day

What We're Doing to Keep You Safe

Taking effect Monday, April 19th, in-person worship will be reduced to 10 people. This means only our media staff and worship team along with the speaker will be scheduled to be in the sanctuary on Sundays.

Of course our regularly scheduled services will be broadcasted as per usual and we look to see you all online. All other online small groups will still be offered, please continue to make use of it.

Your faithful prayers and generous support are always appreciated and by God’s grace we’ll get through this together.

Due to the rise of COVID-19 cases, the province of Ontario, including Durham has entered into stay-at-home-order and state of emergency. Under these new regulations, churches may have in-person attendance with a capacity limit of 15%.

APC has chosen to remain open for in-person attendance and is abiding by the highest standards in accordance with COVID-19 protocols. In addition to our implemented procedures, we would like to remind you of a few measures in place to keep your family safe.

Registration

We ask that upon registering for service whether online or in person that you provide the team with your first and last name, your contact information (email and phone number), and the same information for your family members and other guests. After each service, the registration list is updated identifying all members who attended the service, and those who registered but did not attend. This list is then saved and will be made available to the Public Health Medical team should contact tracing be required.

Physical Contact

We ask our members to refrain from any contact with people outside of your personal bubble. No fist bumping or elbow touching. Only greet with a wave from six feet away.

Continuous Deep Cleaning

During our service, our janitorial staff will be continually sanitizing high traffic areas of our building.

Social distance measures

We encourage you to remain only within your bubble while you are on the church premises. Continue to keep six feet away from other individuals.

In the Event of a Positive Test

The Durham Region Health Department has confirmed that a few individuals at APC have tested positive for COVID-19. The identity of these individuals is protected by privacy legislation and will not be shared by us. All of the affected individuals are quarantining and doing well, and are being monitored by their physicians.

Please note, a positive case at APC does not necessarily mean any of the individuals were exposed to COVID-19 at the church. They may have been exposed somewhere else in the community. Thus, we encourage everyone to follow the direction of public health officials and to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

If you are planning to attend an upcoming service and later come into close contact with anyone identified as COVID-19 positive, we ask that you stay home and self-assess for symptoms of the virus. Symptoms to monitor for include:

– New or worsening cough
– Difficulty swallowing
– Shortness of breath / difficulty breathing
– Decrease or loss sense of taste or smell

– New or worsening runny nose / nasal congestions
– Sore throat / hoarse voice
– Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
– Abdominal pain

– Muscle aches
– Unexplained or worsening headaches
– Unexplained fatigue / malaise
– Pink eye (conjunctivitis)

When a member of APC is identified as being positive for the virus, the Public Health Medical team works with the affected individuals to identify and provide the information of any persons they may have been in contact with. Public Health then makes every effort to inform all exposed individuals. As the Public Health Department will get in touch with all who were exposed, you should not expect to receive that type of communication from APC’s own medical staff in accordance with the Privacy Act. At APC, your safety is our priority and we will not hesitate to enforce guidelines and proper procedures to keep our congregants safe.
